The city is divided into 25 districts, but only 3 areas are really tourist-friendly: the Old Town, the Politeama and Liberta districts, and Mondello. If youre traveling with kids, youll be happy to hear that kids between 4 and 11 get half-price tickets. From Linguaglossa you access Piano Provenzana. You can visit Etna without a guide only up to 2900 m. To see the highest craters at 3300 meters a tour guide is required (Mount Etna Summit and Crater Trek). Tours from Taormina (best hotel deals via booking.com): Both tours are perfect if you stay in Taormina in the spring, summer, or fall: You will get picked up at or near your hotel. You can even get to 2,900 m and experience great views without a longer hike by taking the public short trek (see above): From Rifugio Sapienza, you take the cable car (Funivia), then get into the jeep and at the summit area its a 40-minute walk to the closer craters.
