Theres so much going on there I dont even know where to start unpacking it, but as things unfold, it becomes clear everyone has things in their closet theyd rather not get out. Although I struggled to get into it at the start, once the story really got going, I was totally invested in the characters and the outcome of their investigation. posts, as well. And thats great, but I wish their arcs connected more with the plot in this novel.
Shes also very mean and sarcastic but she adds so much fun and entertainment to this book through her POV.

I have to say, Aurelian and Vehan seemed to fade into the background as the book went on, with Arlo really feeling like the main character for most of the book, rather than the story being split between them more equally. We have Arlo, a half-human half-fae who dreams of living a normal life but just might be the key to solving everything. Lets hop in! Okay so fir, Book Review! We dont have a new person in the world that acts as our proxy to the world. A soft magic system can be confusing so I can understand why it mightve been frustrating to read! It wasnt as bogged down by long descriptions and explanations, and I was able to really get into the story and enjoy the ride.

Sadly, its long and confusing and I wasnt motivated to read it. Like Arlo and Nausica, these boys are sweet on each other and like Nausica, Aurelian would walk through fire for Zehan, lets hope he doesnt have to.
Meanwhile, Vehan is a prince in Las Vegas and he wants to investigate because he has the same markings the victims had, but was always lead to believe were scars from infancy.

Here Are The Video Games Launching In August 2022, Ben Affleck Returns to DC for Auquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Prince Vehan and Aurelian bring more questions than answers to the plot, but I felt like their perspectives set up future plot points. If thats not bad enough, theres a war brewing between the Mortal and Immortal Realms, and one of these teens is destined to tip the scales. She can be thorny (putting it very mildly) and has high ambitions for both her and her son. Im just barely scratching the surface here as this book has all of these things plus a really fun murder/mystery plot that involves titans, the 7-deadly sins, immortals, conspiracies at all levels of the courts, and enough pop culture references to throw a Philosophers Stone at. Wish them luck. And while Ashley definitely fills their world with familiar speculative and mythical creatures, ideas, and folklore, they make this complex seelie/unseelie history unique and special. Its not hard to pinpoint whats great about this book, theres several things, but one of the big reasons is the worldbuilding and environments, which can go from as simple as describing the look and feel of a faerie caf, to a magically attuned forest (Hiraeth) disguised as pawn shop, or a massive underground monster factory that will give you nightmares. The you cant put it down factor for A Dark and Hollow Star is very high, even for a somewhat lengthy book, but I think that youll find the pacing is very pleasing. Hi friends!

I hope Selidom appears much more in the sequel because his characters also fascinating. Ive heard so many good things about it, and now Im even more interested since I love slow burn too! Im not a big fan of soft magic systems. First of all Nausicaa has a heart full of revenge and an attitude. Not really my kind of book so I think I would give it a pass. You would of course expect trolls, faeries, and deities to have a symbiotic relationship with their environment, but Ashley makes you feel the air shift around Nausica as her true form is revealed, smell the fae fragrance as Arlos skills increase, and sense what Aurelians lesidhe magic can sense. It was just overly wordy. Back then, I didn't know anyone else who was chronically ill, didn't have any stories to read with characters like me, and it was lonely. Although Selidoms a secondary character, hes an agent of chaos and fiercely protective of Arlo.
