Indeed, the Lanzerac winery is renowned for being home to the worlds first bottled Pinotage, which remains one of its flagship wines amongst a range of truly superb vintages.

It was all superb. When guests stay at the property, they check out how quiet the room is, how friendly the staff is, and more. It was a magical weekend in Cape winelands, ending with the scrumptious breakfast before we headed back home. They have the park run on Saturday what a hi-light running through olive trees vineyards and forests. There was nothing that we lacked in the cottage. The outstanding service stems from the policy that the same duty manager will look after you throughout your stay, greeting you on check-in and remaining on hand for anything you might need until departure. Theres world-class food and wine, of course, plated up around Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, but its the characterful hotels that really make theCape Winelandsa destination worth savouring.

As we head into South Africa's most sun-soaked season, we drink in our favourite stays in the wine-making, food-loving heartland. Need more inspiration? Breakfast was superb. Our brief was 'Unknown Adventure' and they delivered! The buildings are all built in Cape Dutch style, with bedrooms found in both the main house and the outbuildings, including stables, with dcor designed to give a nod to the estates history. This really is a little gem. Their Sunday brunches are an institution for locals and guests alike, especially during the long hot summers that this beautiful part of South Africa is renowned for.

Featuring an outdoor swimming pool and garden, Rozendal Farm Cottage is located on an organic farm against the forested mountain slopes of the Jonkershoek Valley, 2.5 mi from Stellenbosch. Room seven is lavished in shades of pink, room 11 is favoured by Sir Elton John (theres a signed photo to prove it) and room three comes with vineyard views galore and all are decorated in Lizs inimitable style.
