It's great to have a powerful shop vacuum, but I often battled with mine to keep it from sucking the floor nozzle tightly to the shop floor. Sounds like a clog somewhere to me also. Heres a picture of what didnt end up in the dust collector.
To remedy this situation, I fashioned a sleeve out of 2x4" welded fencing that fits inside the trash-can liner.

It may work for edge jointing, but face jointing, one of the most useful functions of an 8" jointer, will most likely produce to much waste for the CT to handle it. turned on the dust collector start to make a cut chips go flying. a challenge, perhaps?
I have a Grizzly 8 inch jointer and a 2hp Grizzly dust collector with a seperate trashcan cyclone seperator, and that sucker never clogs up. Long shavings, such as you often get with pine, can collect and block the flow.
Utilizing a 4-inch OD connector port, it works seamlessly with most 4 ID flexible hoses.

The dust collector works great with the table saw. If your dust collector is at it's limit with the jointer, it must be a black and decker dustbuster. The solution is percolating in your pantry!
I removed the front cover (as suggested by Halfday) and noticed a bunch of sawdust packed against the cutterhead.

A few minutes work with a bent piece of stiff wire cleared the channels and things worked great again.
I find 4 ducts is plenty for my jointer (8) and thicknesser (15).
Secondly, you need to check the perforated chip deflector mounted directly below the cutterhead.
Shop-vacuum hoses have a way of unwinding on their own, creating a hazard underfoot.

Otherwise, its going to be abroom for this one. I have a Jet DC 1100 collector that's used on only 4 dedicated tools, Delta jointer, Dewalt 735 planer, Bosch table saw and Delta band saw. Looking at the pictures, I wonder if you have tried taking the upper unit off of the base to see if youll find something that is hidden from other views but if that is not successful, Ive got nothing else for you. Then, glue and clamp the plywood spacers to one of the 7x7" plywood pieces.
Given an 8" jointer will most likely have a 4" collection port, reducing that to even the 50mm hose size most likely will result in an insufficient airflow to take care of the chips coming off the jointer.
My 1.5 hp Jet DC system has several of the inexpensive plastic gates and I'm beginning to have some problems with them.
