TIP FOR USING TRANSFER PAPER: When you are transferring cut vinyl with transfer tape I have found the best method is to rub the vinyl quite hard with a spatula or back of a ruler with the transfer tape stuck onto the front of the vinyl and then to peel the paper backing off directly backwards.
Even though they are sticky, I used DAP RapidFuse to make it extra secure because they tend to fall off without it.

To apply the vinyl to the DIY ceramic tile coasters all you need is your cut vinyl lettering, transfer tape and a good spatula. Then, place the paper on top and smooth it out using your fingers or a straight edge.

I havent tried it, but I remember reading that it was important before I did the project. Use photos, magazine clippings, old maps, newspaper, memorable travel tickets, or anything else that would be fun to have on a custom coaster.
